We live in a country with such a rich and diverse architectural history. This includes many heritage assets such as houses and commercial buildings which are protected by English Heritage. This section highlights an array of Historic and Listed Buildings that we have worked on to gain planning permission and Listed Building consent for alterations and extensions. The Team at GSH Architects has vast experience of working with listed buildings, producing historic details to accompany applications and liaising with Listed Building Officers within the local authorities.
The White Horse Barn, Bristol
The White Horse Barn was a Grade II Listed coach house adjacent to an existing public house in Hambrook, Bristol. GSH Architects were appointed to provide a design for a flexible function space and carry out the listed building application including the detailed design for construction.
Great Goytre, Usk
Great Goytre is a grade II listed building which the client wished to make internal and external alterations to. GSH Architects undertook the listed building application, attended meetings with the listed building officers, and prepared a full schedule of works for the proposals.
15 St Thomas Street
Although not listed the cottage at St Thomas Street is located within a conservation area and is under an article 4 direction, it also abuts a listed building so when coming up with a design for a rear extension we had to ensure the design was well thought through and respected the historic setting.
The client wanted to explore a modern solution for the extension to flood the dark rooms with light, and maximise the wonderful courtyard garden and views towards the cathedral.
